Q. What is the purpose of the Autism Education Trust?

A.

  • To continue to raise awareness of the importance of appropriate educational
    provision for children and young people on the autism spectrum.
  • To bring organisations involved in delivering autism education services together
    in order to promote good practice and share information.
  • To involve children and young people on the autism spectrum (together with
    their families and carers), in the planning and delivery of information and
    resources to enhance and improve autism education across the country.

Q. How will the Autism Education Trust achieve its aims?

A.

  • It will commission research in order to remain relevant and fully informed of
    current practice across England.
  • It will provide a platform for the promotion and sharing of good practice that
    succeeds in improving the education needs of children and young people on the
    autism spectrum.
  • It will provide a link between users, professionals, policy makers and central
    government involved with autism education.

Q. How is the AET funded?

A.

  • The AET has been funded in 2008/9 by the Department of Children, Schools and Families, and will continue to be funded by them in 2009/10.

Q. How is the AET structured?

A.

  • Four Groups of people are directly involved in the work of the AET:
  • The Steering Group defines and monitors what we do against our objectives.
  • The Advisory Group provide wide-ranging expert advice on autism education to the Trust.
  • The Youth Advisory Group are a group of children across the range of the spectrum who participate in the work of the Trust. 
  •  Regional Advisory Groups exist to give a wider group of interested professionals, parents and carers the opportunity to share experiences on a more regional basis. (These are currently in development)
