Receiving a diagnosis of autism can be difficult and confusing for young people and their families. The AET’s new DVD about diagnosis has been made by a group of young people on the autism spectrum, who share their experiences of receiving a diagnosis. It aims to provide help and support to young people who have recently received a diagnosis or are going through that process and their families. The DVD will also be useful for teachers, GP surgeries and local authorities.

The DVD comprises of a series of films in which the young people and their parents tell the story of their experiences both before and after diagnosis and what it means to them now. There are also interviews with young professionals with autism who have succeeded in gaining fulfilling employment, and information from diagnosticians about the process, procedure and outcomes of diagnosis.

The DVD comes with an accompanying booklet providing further information about autism and suggested further reading recommended by the young people who made the film. Priced at £14.99, it is available to order now by calling Tel: 020 7903 3650 or email: info@autismeducationtrust.org.uk
