Autism Update: How to help children with autism cope with change at school

 18/05/10

Education Guardian

The Autism Education Trust (AET), with the help of other autism organisations, has sponsored a supplement due for publication in Education Guardian on Tuesday 18 May 2010. The supplement, called Autism Update, has a transition theme and covers topics around school transition from Early Years to post-16 provision. Please look out for it in Tuesday’s Guardian and do tell colleagues. We are sure it will be of interest to all those working in the field of education. It provides some useful insights into the realities and difficulties around transition, and gives several examples of good practice to inspire practitioners to find out more about supporting pupils on the autism spectrum.

To coincide with the publication of the supplement, the AET is publishing two new resources – a Transition Toolkit, aimed at professionals supporting children and young people through change, and Tools for Teachers, a comprehensive and practical guide for teachers and other education support staff looking for ways in which to help children and young people with autism at school.
