AET and Commissioning Support Programme seminar

AET hosts Commissioning Support Programme seminar for autism education service commissioners to update knowledge and share information and good practice.
 
Date: 20 July 2010
Time: 10.00am – 3.45pm (Arrivals from 9.30am)
Venue: Harts Upstairs at Harts Hotel, Standard Hill, Park Row, Nottingham, NG1 6GN
Lunch and refreshments will be provided
 
Speakers will include:

  • Dr Glenys Jones, who leads the Autism Centre for Educational Research at the University of Birmingham
  • Annette English, co-author of "Educational provision for children and young people on the autism spectrum living in England: a review of current practice, issues and challenges" - this can be found here.

  • an officer from The Department for Education working specifically in the field of autism
  • Caroline Hattersley - Head of Information, Advice and Advocacy at the National Autistic Society
  • an officer from the Commissioning Support Programme
  • an officer who has recently joined a Local Authority from the Learning and Skills Council and who is directly involved in commissioning 16-25 LLDD provision
  • and we hope to be joined by a school leader who runs a KS4 PRU which makes enhanced provision for out of school learning programmes and who also runs alternative programmes for vulnerable learners for an academy 

The seminar will take the following format:

  • a recap on how commissioning is defined in ECM and regional commissioning guidance
  • feedback from the Commissioning Support Programme survey
  • a reminder of what data is available nationally to assist commissioning education provision for children, young people and young adults on the autism spectrum
  • consideration of what operational structures apply in Children’s Services for the commissioning of education provision for children, young people and young adults on the autism spectrum,  in your area / LA and more broadly
  • the extent to which SEN strategic management, ASD commissioning and 19-25 LLDD management is integrated with children's services commissioning
  • a discussion of the current and future challenges for the effective commissioning of education provision for children, young people and young adults with autism
  • the identification of any autism specific issues that may be understated, or not fully understood and applied, in these contexts, including how far parents understand all of this

Places for the seminar are limited to ensure participants can make best use of the day and engage in quality discussion and learning.
