Henry Winkler launches First News campaign to change attitudes to learning differences

The Autism Education Trust has given its support to a new campaign which hopes to add weight to the growing awareness that all children learn differently. The First News My Way! Campaign was launched at 10 Downing Street on 6th January by the Prime Minister’s wife Sarah Brown and Henry Winkler, best known for his role as The Fonz in TV show Happy Days. AET Youth Council representatives Sam Travers and Helen Wood and Project Head Sarah-Jane Critchley attended the launch. Helen said;

“I had the most amazing time at Downing Street. It was great to chat with Ed Balls and Alan Johnson called me over to stand next to him at the photo call! I think the campaign will have a big impact because of the high level of support the government is prepared to commit to learning differences.”

One in five school-aged children need extra help due to a learning difficulty, which may include being on the autism spectrum. It is essential all children are given the opportunity to succeed by having their learning needs recognised and appropriately supported.
