The National Autistic Society’s Broomhayes School and Children’s Centre in Bideford, North Devon, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Recent redevelopment of the site means Broomhayes now boasts a brand new post-16 college, new residential facilities and upgraded accommodation to enable it to provide high quality year-round educational provision for up to 34 students.
To officially open the new buildings and mark the anniversary, the school welcomed NAS Patron Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex at the beginning of September.
Her Royal Highness visited the new college and saw the state of the art facilities first hand as she took part in a lesson and viewed the library. She was then given a tour of the new residential building by 19-year-old student Jasmine Ellis before being taken to the school gym to meet students, staff and donors. Her Royal Highness received a book made by students before unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the 25th anniversary on what was a very memorable day for the students and the staff alike.
