Who is this module for?

For professionals in primary and secondary education

Learning objectives

This training will:

  • Enable practitioners to explore theories of autism and consider the implications for practice.
  • Provide practical strategies to support practitioners as they develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of effective autism practice.
  • Enable practitioners to reflect on their practice and share their enhanced knowledge more widely across their organisation

Principles

The materials will be used to promote the following principles:

  1. Focus on difference and not deficit.
  2. Have high expectations and promote positive attitudes to autism.
  3. Focus on securing learning goals that are meaningful to the pupil and which will support positive life outcomes in the future.

This course will:

  • Enable staff to develop a more in depth understanding of Autism; following on from completion of AET Tier 1 training: ‘Basic awareness of Autism’
  • Provide guidance and practical strategies to help staff improve their own practice in working with pupils with Autism
  • Ensure evidence for Ofsted during School inspection
  • Improve behaviour and outcomes for pupils with Autism
  • Narrow and close the gap in attainment for learners with Autism
  • Effective teaching and learning strategies for pupils with Autism
  • Audit and evaluate your school’s performance

A comprehensive course designed for all professionals working across education settings

On completion of your AET Tier 2 training, you will be eligible to free networking meetings in order to receive additional training modules in areas such as: Girls on the Autism Spectrum, Thinking and Learning Styles, Sensory Needs, Challenging Behaviours, peer awareness, Lego therapy, Learning environments, and Subject Specific Packages Learning Styles, Sensory Needs, Challenging Behaviours, peer awareness, Lego therapy, learning environments, and Subject Specific Packages.
